I’ve been having a lot of server problems lately, and work on them as well as launching a couple of new sites have kept me busy, so I’ve not been able to add anything to Poker Affiliate Bible in the last week. I am moving a few of my major sites to a new server, and hopefully that’ll help ease the load on this one. I have an article on Targeting Bonus Whores just about ready to roll, and that should be up Tuesday or Wednesday, time permitting. Right now I have to get back to the wonderful fun of backing up everything on this server, then shipping it over to the new server.
I’m also thinking about switching Content Management Systems. I’ve used Geeklog for about five years now, and while I’m very comfortable with it and it does its job, it’s been getting hard to maintain, especially when new versions come out, as I’ve made so many hacks that a simple upgrade requires about five hours of work…per site, and as I have eight sites running on Geeklog…well as you can imagine that is quite the amount of work! So I’m going to use this time to test out a new CMS, and am looking at Joomla.
For new webmasters, I always recommend using a Content Management System, and the one I recommend to most people is WordPress. WordPress is very SEO friendly, has a lot of excellent free plugins and templates that should meet your needs, and is very very easy to customize. Once your site gets bigger you might want to look into something else, but if you’re just getting into the game, go with WordPress.
I’m also going to be launching a new site in April, which will be based on sports picks. I like to gamble it up, and bet on everything from UK horse racing to the NBA, and decided it’d be fun to start a site offering all my picks. I also stopped promoting sportsbooks awhile ago, so this’ll give me the chance to get back into that again. Anyway it’s 4am EST and I’ve got some more backing up to do! With the server changes, e-mail might be up and down the next few days, so use my direct gmail, dealerd@gmail.com if you need to contact me.
