Welcome to TWIM – Thank Winter It’s Monday. It’s just past 5am here and I just got finished taking my dog for a long walk and man – it just clicked for me how much I love Winter.
There’s just something really amazing about Winter mornings, when the streets are covered in snow. It’s pitch black, and you’re the only one out. Hell, you’re probably the only one awake. You can just walk around in silence on top of a big white blank.
I just find it very awe-inspiring. It’s really difficult to explain, but I’ve found it very easy to get up at 5am these days simply due to that. I’ll wake up about 4:50am and immediately rush to get ready, so I can get out there and enjoy nature at its best.
And of course, I take that great feeling and turn it into an AWESOME work week. I’m ready to rock this week. Let’s get to it!
Changing Motivational Techniques
People are always looking for the “ultimate” motivational technique, or methods to cure writers block etc. This applies big time for people who work from home, and set their own hours etc.
I’ve talked a lot about motivational techniques in the past, but if there’s one thing I’ve learnt in over 15 years of internet marketing it’s this:
There’s not one catch-all motivational technique.
Asking how to “cure writers block” or “get inspired” isn’t like asking what 2+2 is. There’s no one solid answer. There’s a variety of motivational techniques. Some will work for you, some won’t.
The worst thing? Some will work for you…for awhile. And then they’ll stop working.
It happens to everyone. Even me! That’s why you need to keep switching things up. You might start setting “blocks” of time to do work – like you’ll work from 9am-12pm then take a long break, and work again from 6pm-9pm. That might work for awhile – but eventually it’ll crash and burn.
I’ve got a friend who has figured this out recently. For a couple of months he would pay himself a “salary” when he worked. That stopped working so he’s now working for 2 hours at a time, then taking a 1 hour break. My current technique is taking weekends off and also taking Wednesdays off. Right now it’s working great – I find when I take that Wednesday off I am PUMPED to work the next day, so it keeps me flowing all through the week. But soon enough, that’ll stop working.
Always keep on your toes, and as soon as you realize a technique isn’t working, look to change it. Don’t beat yourself up if one system isn’t working – sometimes routine just doesn’t work.
Please “Like” my Facebook Page
No, I’m not begging you to “Like” my Facebook Page. I just saw threads pop up on four separate affiliate forums this weekend and shook my head.
There’s really two purposes of getting people to “Like” your Facebook page. #1 is after 25 members, you get your own custom URL. Okay great. The second one is for appearances. Let’s be honest – those poker affiliates you’re trying to get to “Like” your generic casino portal facebook page aren’t your target audience, are they?
The only reason you are looking for “Likes” is so that if anyone from your website clicks through, they see it actually has a ton of “Likes” on it already. It makes it look popular, and makes them more likely to “Like” it too.
Save yourself some hassle, and save yourself time from going around “Liking” every other Facebook page in some sort of silly chain. Just head on over to Fiverr. $5 will get you 400+ likes to your Facebook page. You can also do Google+, Twitter etc for the same. And the whole process takes about 5 minutes.
There’s your time-saving tip of the week.
Eye-Catching Headlines:
Which one of these headlines would you click on?
- Seinfeld Actor Dead
- Seinfeld Actor Ian Abercrombie Dead
- Ian Abercrombie Dead
It’s obviously #1 first right? Then #2 and at dead last #3. Ian Abercrombie, who played Elaines boss on Seinfeld(Mr Pitt) died this weekend.
It was interesting to see what websites used what headlines. While #1 may seem obvious, it’s something that is highly speculative and will piss readers off. So depending on the website, you’ll see different headlines. Some sites can get away with #1 like TMZ. As I said – #1 may seem the obvious one, but if you’re looking to build a reputation with your site, then that’s the wrong one to choose. The best one is the middle one, and that’s the headline that sites like Entertainment Weekly used.
Just one of those things you should always notice and think about when you browse the web. Sometimes I like to go back 3 weeks and study my browsing history for that day. See what websites I went to, and what led me there etc.
I Gotta Work
I’ve got about 50 to do list items to do, before I can start work on the new Affiliate Bible design. So time for me to check out of this weeks article.
Have a great week, do tons of work! Pretend this is the last week of your life and go nuts, accomplishing everything that you can!
